Obama:  The New King

In November, 2008, the people of this nation elected a nationally unknown, civil-rights activist-lawyer, barely-active Senator from Illinois named Barack Hussein Obama to the highest position in our government, the President of the United States of America.  He was put into that position because of his mantra, “Change:  Yes We Can.”  The media poles told us their research showed the citizens of this country demanded change in government, and lo and behold, a charismatic caricature of a man was thrust forth as the agent of this change, chosen by those few people who have the wherewithal, the will, and the money to promote these things.  This Senator, formerly a Muslim (he claims), now a member of a black anti-white anti-government racist Protestant church, the Trinity United Church of Chicago was elected according to the will of the people, a nation under God.

There is a profound morality story in the Bible about this very thing:  the demands of the people of a nation, purportedly under God, for change in government and the ability to elect the one who they believed would serve them best.  The Israelites, for many generations after having entered the promised land of Canaan, had been successfully judged by men appointed by God to serve in the capacity of protecting the people from those in their community who would harm them and passing judgment against those who did.  But, the people of Israel were unsatisfied with this system and, upon seeing the nations around them and their system of being governed by kings, wanted to be like these other countries.  They wanted a “physical” king, one whom they could actually see and relate to, who would benevolently serve them from a throne surrounded by loyal subjects and servants. Of course, there is more to this story than just the will of the people and their demands for change.

The Israelite Judge, called Samuel, had become old and feeble and the people could see him as the last of the good judges and became fearful for their future leadership.  They pressured Samuel into speaking for them to God to provide them with a king as all the other nations had to become their leader after his death.

Samuel approached God and told Him of the peoples’ wishes to which He told Samuel, “The people have not rejected you, but have rejected Me from being their king.  Since the days I delivered them from Egypt, they have forsaken Me and served others.”   God told Samuel to speak to the people and warn them of their mistake in preference of a king over them, saying, “Your king will take your sons and make them serve himself as weapons of wars as he chooses.  He will take the best of your crops to use as he sees fit.  He will take members of your families and that of your friends to do his work.  He put taxes upon you with such great demand that you will become servants for him to do his will.”

The people refused to listen to Samuel and demanded a king to lead in such a way as all other nations are led; to fight for us in our battles and to lead us in hard times.  They had had leadership through God for centuries, but this was no longer sufficient for the people.  They had become insensitive to God’s guidance and He essentially decided to allow them their wishes, to let them have their way because they were so insistent.  So, Samuel told the people to go out to all the land and find themselves such a king as would satisfy them.

There was a man named Saul, handsome and dynamic, a favorite among his people.  At a time when his father’s donkeys went missing from the herds of livestock, it fell upon Saul to find these donkeys.  In his search, he came upon the man known as the “Seer,” known to be a man of God.  The day previous to this meeting, God had told Samuel he would be meeting a young man named Saul and he was to anoint him to be the chosen leader over Israel.

Upon their meeting, Samuel informed Saul his search for his donkeys was ended, for they were safe, and he would accompany him to be presented before the people and the candidate for their new king.  However, Saul was not convinced of all this, so he hid from the leaders of Israel until found and was confronted with doubt by many men of the tribes.  After many days of internal wrangling and bickering, the people accepted God’s choice for them and Samuel told them, “Only fear the Lord and serve Him in truth and with all your heart; for consider what great things He has done for you.  But, if you still do wickedly, both you and your king will be swept away.”

It was not long before Saul, swept up in the glory and greatness of becoming king of Israel, began to usurp his mentor’s advice and ignore him and God’s wishes.  He had decided he alone was capable of making decisions regardless whether God, Samuel, or the people themselves approved of it.  He had made his own agenda in his rule of Israel.  God then rejected Saul, refusing any quests for advice or guidance from him.  Upon realizing he was truly on his own, he turns to psychics and seers-of-truth through the stars and the tossing of bones and stones to gain the insight he needed to rule.  Ultimately, Saul almost destroyed the people who trusted him to rule over them with the generosity and faithfulness he initially had shown and promised.  Having almost bankrupted the nation of Israel, both economically and intellectually, and having led them into wars un-wanted and un-needed, Saul kills himself so his successor, David, might come to lead Israel in greatness and follow God’s Will for His people.

People of America, we have come to that point in our lives that our Saul, called Barack Hussein Obama, has been elected as leader of our nation, chosen by God because we demanded it with such vehemence and fervor.  We are finally beginning to learn of our mistake and can only hope a limited amount of damage will be done to this glorious country of ours until a new leader can be elected, truly of God, willing to lead in His name and for His glory.

We have brought this upon ourselves, rejecting Godly men as candidates and choosing instead to elect a man filled with sin, surrounded by deceit and hate, with a character founded upon lies with no regard for the Godly things in this life, but only for those of Satan.  In the history of our great nation, no other leader, proven even before his election to be as incapable of acting as President of America, has ever been selected by so many ill-informed, ignorant, prejudiced, and self-serving people.  We shall pay the price for our apathy and our misapplied tolerances through the loss of our freedom to practice our faith, the freedom to live and work as we deem necessary for our families, the freedom to raise and educate our children in the ways of God, and the freedom to simply go about our daily lives without interference from any government entity.  We can only hope the fate of our sitting president will be as consequential as that of Saul.
